Okay, I've Made My Espresso, Now What Do I Do With the Milk?

I did all of the right things to make espresso at home.  I bought myself a good espresso machine.  I learned which espresso beans have the best taste and how to grind them to the correct fineness.  I managed to insert the gadget with the grinds, known as a portafilter, into the espresso machine, lock it into place, turn on the machine and let her rip.  Great espresso!

But I wanted a cappuccino.  Sue wanted a latte.  Time to figure out how to steam the milk.

Sue is always dieting, so she wants nonfat milk.  I found out that low fat and nonfat milk foam really easily.  Whole milk takes more practice. Same thing with half and half if you want a breve.

Some espresso machines have a built in steam nozzle and some don't.  You may need to buy a separate steamer.  I recommend getting an espresso machine with one built in.  Saves space.

Do You Indulge in the Most Expensive Coffee

When you think of coffee, you probably immediately imagine a Starbucks cup, piping hot and topped with whip cream. Yes sir, this has become the norm these days. Virtually everyone across the globe knows all about major coffee chains. Since this is the case, these coffee houses make a hefty profit. However, do they offer consumers the most expensive coffee beans known to man? Of course not! More than likely, major coffee chains will make use of whatever is cheap. Sadly many consumers can tell they're doing this. But yet they still continue to purchase the coffee.

More Than A Cupful of Coffee Benefits

Most people just can't live without coffee.  These are the people who look forward to their first cup of coffee as soon as they wake up in the morning.  They are the habitués of coffee shops day-in and day-out, those who have made coffee a regular part of their daily routine and lifestyle.
The growing number of coffee “addicts” have prompted hundreds of studies addressing concerns about the effects of coffee on the body and whether or not caffeine causes harm. Some say that it's good to drink coffee when you have a headache.  Others say that it's bad to drink coffee if you have stomach problems. Learning about the facts and the myths of coffee drinking will help coffee lovers enjoy their next cup even more.

The general effects of coffee fall into the following categories:

· Stimulant effects. Caffeine makes coffee a well-established stimulant as it stimulates the nervous system, including the nerves controlling intestinal activity, blood pressure and airway size which may keep you alert and awake, yet may also impair sleep, cause jitters and anxiety.
· Heartburn. All types of coffee, even decaf, can stimulate secretion of stomach acid, which may lead to heartburn.

Melita Coffee Makers In Many Forms

Most of us had our first taste of coffee when we were kids. Then, we were so eager to sip our parent's morning beverage. Infact one of the pranks children love playing is to do exactly the contrary of what they are told is bad. This explains their curiosity and wondering what is in that cup that parents' only want to keep it to themselves.

But I will say that when we finally sneaked behind our parent's to take a sip, astonishing is the right word to describe our feeling- the taste was very awful. We were like what on earth is this? Or is our parents playing a practical joke on us? Because we wondered why all the noise and importance attached to this beverage with a very awful taste.

Manufacturing Flavored Coffee Beans

The sprouting of specialty coffee shops has stirred many people worldwide into drinking coffee.  Even multi-national coffee shop companies have decided to go head on and open coffee shops in China where tea is very popular amongst hot beverages.

The flavored coffee bean sector has tripled or even quadrupled its sales volume for the past few decades when people have realized the rich complementary flavor of flavored coffee beans.  Coffee experts would view the flavoring of the coffee as an enhancement of what really is the true coffee flavor and not to overpower it.

Many have come to love their favorite flavored coffee bean but only a few have come to see and share what really goes behind in making it.

Making The Perfect Coffee: Baristas Vs. Coffee Makers

There's nothing quite like a cup of coffee in the morning. The aroma alone seems to wake you up and fill you with energy.

How do you like your coffee? There are so many varieties anymore that it's hard to choose. It may even take an entire lifetime to taste all the kinds of coffee available today.

Where do you think the perfect cup would come from: a coffee maker or a person?

Coffee drinkers use coffee makers for the convenience these machines offer. Some critics, however, claim that the appliances sacrifice some of the taste. Recent innovations in coffee maker technology, however, try to prove the critics wrong.

Coffee makers now prepare each cup with amazing accuracy, getting the temperature right, the timing down to a split-second and the ingredients measured to near-perfection. Designed to make the best possible cup of coffee, these smart coffee makers make each cup as delicious as possible.

Making Great Coffee Takes Skill

Making good coffee isn’t as simple as just setting your coffee machine. Making bad coffee is much easier to make, but if you want the best cup of coffee then you need to take care of certain things before you pour the first drop.

If you want the best brew then make sure you have cold water in your machine. Don’t use water that is hot or has been boiled already, if you want even superior results than use cold water that has been filtered or is bottled. If your home has old pipes and nasty tasting water than this can further affect the taste of your coffee. If your town has a lot of chlorine in the water or if it is very hard this can also affect the taste of your coffee.

Making A Perfect Cup Of Espresso Coffee

When it comes to making Espresso, each and every professional coffee maker, such as Barista, will have their personal secret recipe. In this article I will show my recipe on how to make a delightful cup of Espresso.

The first most important ingredient of Espresso is water. In espresso you can only use fresh hot water. The water should ideally be around 203F (95C) that is nearly boiling. Water often becomes stale due to the presence of mildew, pure cleaning methods and inadequate filtering. If you use stale water then no matter how good the quality of the coffee bean, it will not be able to overcome the association of poor water.

The next ingredient is coffee. While making Espresso you should choose Arabica. It doesn't matter whether it has been grown in Brazil or Bogotل or elsewhere. The bean should have been grown above 915m and should be delivered all fresh for roasting. You can either elf roast it or but it a few days after but your coffee should essentially have the 'fresh food' smell in it.

Making A Great Cup Of Coffee

Today, I will propose to you how to make a great cup of coffee. You can do it. There are a few secrets to the process. I will share these with you.

Start with the bean and pick your roast. Quality coffee can only come from a quality coffee bean that is properly roasted. The process of roasting a coffee bean is complex and can result in a given bean tasting very different depending on how it is roasted. If you desire a strong intense flavor to your coffee, choose a dark roast (ex: French Roast). If you like to a light flavor, less intense, choose a lighter roast.

Never use pre-ground coffee. Pre-ground coffee will lose its flavor and essence within a short period of time. Grinding before you brew will assure you that no flavor is lost due to time.

Make A Coffee Treat In Your Own Kitchen

International Coffee Treats

It’s hard to keep track of all the names for coffee drinks and beans these days.  Fortunately the abundance of choice makes finding a new favorite coffee beverage easier than ever.  If you prefer drinking coffee out that is fine or drink it at home and purchase one of the new fancy grind and brew coffee makers.  No matter if you sip coffee in your kitchen or on the street, there is a name for everything and a few you should learn!

For instance the European, Frappe, is one commonly mispronounced in the States.  The ‘e’ is silent.  Latin Americans also enjoy the Frappe which is made by pour two teaspoons of sugar, a dash of milk, crushed ice, and chilled espresso together.  You can also add brandy or crème de cacao for a subtle change.  Drink it with a straw to be more “Euro.”

Location, Location, Coffee?

Many people think about schools, shopping centers and crime when they think about choosing the location of an investment property. They don't always think about coffee. However, Sarah Gilbert, a blogger on bloggingstocks.com says that you might want to rethink this, due to her own successful experience with a Starbucks moving in close by. Upon studying coffeehouses, it becomes clear that there's something to a coffee shop that makes it worth something beyond spiced lattes.

When I visit a coffee house, especially the independent coffee houses that impart their own charm to an area, it's like entering a tiny little neighborhood. People recognize each other in the coffeehouse because they met here, not because they made friends leaning against their back fences (although they may, indeed, share a fence). It's a place that encourages people in the neighborhood to walk more - over to the coffeehouse for a specialty coffee or a pastry or just to see who else is hanging out.

Make A Coffee Can Herb Garden

If you drink a lot of coffee, you probably have quite a few metal coffee cans on hand. With just a little effort, you can make a useful and pretty handmade gift for your friends and family.

First, wash out your can and peel off any labels. Next, apply a coat of metal primer to your can. Let the primer dry thoroughly. Then, apply a coat of bright acrylic paint to the can.

Once your can is painted, you can decorate it. I like to apply crackle medium and then add a top coat of color. This effect is beautiful if you paint a deep blue undercoat and a rich red overcoat on your can.

You may want to rubberstamp bugs or garden tools onto the can instead. To do this, use stamps that are flexible so that you can stamp onto the curved surface of the can. You can apply a light coat of acrylic paint to the stamp and then press the stamp onto the can, carefully rolling the stamp so that the whole image is stamped onto the can. If you mess up, don't worry. You can wipe the stamped image off the can and start over.

low-acid-coffee-30

I love coffee. I absolutely love it and have several cups everyday. I also suffer from stomach problems and have for many years. About eight years ago I was diagnosed with an ulcer and have since been diagnosed with acid reflux disease. I was surprised to find out that acid reflux disease runs in my family and I began to think that it was more a matter of genetics than anything else. After several discussions with my primary physician, I had to rethink this assumption and instead turn my focus on my own habits and diet. Perhaps my zealous love of coffee was doing me some harm.

It is no secret that coffee can be very acidic. Because of the amount of coffee I tend to drink I had to wonder if all the coffee was causing or, at the very least, exacerbating the acid reflux. To test this theory I begrudgingly went in search of low acid coffee. I was only able to find one brand of low acid coffee at my local grocery store. It was Folger’s Simply Smooth. Many of you I am sure have seen the commercial for simply smooth and the slogan “welcome back the second cup.”

Marketing industries are quick to catch on to what’s hot on the market, what sells and what consumers will pay a premium price for. Good marketing strategies tout particular characteristics of products and show them off as something exclusive, making consumers think they’re buying something special and innovative. But buyer beware! Marketing companies use mind manipulation and the general ignorance of people as tactics to help promote merchandise, boost prices and bring in sales. Don’t be one of those consumers who believe everything they read!

A perfect example of good marketing is the coffees that are low in acid. Some companies are using come-hither strategies such as pairing low acid coffee with specialized diets or medical illnesses. A quick search of low acid coffee on the internet doesn’t bring up processing descriptions but a plethora of coffee companies blaring words like ‘new’ and ‘specially-processed.’ Dig a little more and narrow down your search to find out exactly what low acid coffee is and you’ll realize it’s not any more special than the coffee you’ve been drinking for years, and certainly not worth paying extra money for.

Let’s Meet For Coffee

Let’s face it, potential dates will not jump on the hood of your car as you speed down the highway from home to work and back. You have to slow down, step out of your comfort zone and really put some effort toward meeting people in order to make the dating scene seem less like a torture chamber and more like the fun it is meant to be.

But once you have an exciting prospect there is a whole new set of dilemmas. And delights. If you are like most people when you find an interesting person to date, a billion questions tramp across your mind. Should I act as interested as I truly am? Should I try to remain aloof? Will it scare him or her away if I bare my soul in the first ten minutes? Should I pace myself and introduce my passions slowly?

Learning About The Espresso Coffee Machine

Coffee aficionados can likely relay the components of an espresso coffee machine much like car devotees can describe an engine. The components of this sophisticated machine work together to brew what many will report is the best coffee you are likely to drink. When it comes to understanding the espresso coffee machine, it’s important to first understand the categories that are used to describe it.

The espresso coffee machine is defined as being a part of one of three categories – manual, semi-automatic, and full-automatic.

Latte Frothing Basics - How to Make Delicious Frothed Milk

Few coffee drinkers fully appreciate the fact that frothed milk is what makes a cappuccino or latte. Without the milk and foam, it is just plain espresso. Like anything worth learning, it takes a bit of practice, even the most capable baristas have a hard time at first. Let us take a look at the frothing process.

Most experts agree that it is best to begin with a stainless steel pitcher, some cold milk and an espresso machine with a steaming wand. Past that, there are as many differing ideas about the frothing process as there are blends of espresso.

Is That Hot Coffee Really Good For You?

It is common knowledge that the caffeine content in coffee is not good for human health. In spite of that caffeine consumption the world over has increased in the past decade. If you are a regular hot coffee drinker and still not familiar with the health issues it poses, it might be worthwhile to read this article.

Tremendous amount of research time has been spent to study the effect of caffeine on people. Most of the findings have discovered that caffeine ( and coffee is one of the highest caffeine laced beverage, a lot higher than tea) has some kind of effect on almost all body parts. Serious health hazards such as rheumatoid arthritis and heart attacks have also been linked to coffee. The common ailments are increase in blood pressure ( can be fatal in individuals who already suffer from high blood pressure) and change in the level of stress hormones.  Heart palpitations, jitters and weakening of the nervous system have also been associated with long time coffee drinkers.

Is Coffee Good Or Bad For You?

Did you know that coffee is the primary part of dietary antioxidants? Now let's be clear: that does not mean that your morning coffee is a substitute for fruits and vegetables. But serious java drinkers will surely get a jolt from the news that coffee is a top resource of disease-fighting antioxidants. Current analysis reveals that, taken in moderation, coffee is a safe beverage that may even offer some health benefits. You may see some additional coffee related information at http://www.fmcoffee.com.

Coffee is one of the few beverages that is consumed world-wide. It is consumed in most countries of the world and coffee is the second most widely traded commodity in the world (behind petroleum) and one of the most widely consumed beverages. It may be a world commodity that is second only to oil, but an excellent cup of coffee tastes a lot better than an excellent cup of petroleum. And, in today's world of high fuel prices, a lot more fun to consume.

How To Select A Single Serve Coffee Maker

An increasing number of us nowadays are wondering how to select a single serve coffee maker that will suit us best at home. These kinds of coffeemaker are designed to produce – as you might expect – a single cup of coffee at a time and they are becoming increasingly popular amongst all kinds of coffee drinkers.

In the past we’ve been a bit limited in our choices of coffee maker – we’ve often, for example, had to make a whole pot of fresh coffee just to enjoy a single cup but things are different nowadays.

The Advantages

The advantages of single serve coffee stations are primarily found in the fact that they can make just one serving of coffee at a time and that they work real quick as a consequence in comparison to multi serve machines. So, you won’t need to waste coffee or won’t need to make more coffee than you’ll actually drink in one sitting.

And, if you choose one of the new single serve pod systems as your final choice here, then you can simply slip a small individual coffee pod into the machine, make your cup of coffee and then throw the pod away. So, there’ll minimal cleaning up and maintenance to do as well!

How To Select A Coffee Roaster

If you have decided to roast your own coffee then your first port of call will be to consider how to select a coffee roaster that is right for you. This decision is probably one of the hardest coffee-related choices you’ll have to make – there’s nothing worse than buying the wrong kind of roaster for your needs.

We’re going to be primarily looking at automated custom coffee bean roasters for the purposes of this article. But, it’s worth noting that you can roast your own coffee beans fresh at home without having to buy a roasting machine.

It is possible to roast beans in or on the stove, on a barbeque or fire or even, sometimes, in a popcorn popper. But, if you take your home roasting seriously and want some help with the process (the do it yourself approach can take a lot more time and effort) then a proper roasting machine may be your best option.

How To Select A Coffee Bean Grinder

If you’re currently wondering how to select a coffee bean grinder to suit you and your kitchen then you probably already know that there are various options open to you. In simple terms most coffee grinders will be spilt into two camps – blade grinders and burr grinders. So how do you choose between the two?

First, it’s worth noting that you can buy both types of grinder as both electric and manual options if you wish. It’s becoming more popular for people to buy electric machines on the whole as there is a big added convenience here so, for the purposes of this guide, we’ll be focusing on electrical options rather than manual ones.

In simple terms the final decision you make when it comes to working out how to select a coffee bean grinder will, in most cases, come down to budget and to how seriously you think about coffee so this is worth bearing in mind as you read through this article.

How To Make Perfect Espresso Coffee

All professional coffee makers (baristas) will have their own technique for making the perfect cup of coffee.  Here my home-grown suggestion…

The whole process begins with simple water.  This water has to be good or no amount of decent coffee grounds will matter.  Water should be fresh and piping hot.  Water should not be stale, mildewy, unclean and not properly filtered.  The perfect temperature is just about at boiling point.

Now for the coffee – choose any coffee that is grown above 3000 feet above sea level.  There are many varieties – Brazilian, Bogotan – my favourite is espresso.  It should be pre-roasted, fresh within at least three days and smell good.

How To Choose An Automatic Coffee Maker

People who have gone out and purchased a coffee maker on price alone and thought the higher the price the better the machine would be, this is not the case, there are many systems out there that are very good and the price tag is not astronomical. Ask yourself some questions where will the machine be permanently placed, how many people will be utilizing it, as well as how much space is available for the machine. What kind of machine do you have at the moment?

Portable coffee makers are very adaptable allowing you to move it all around the kitchen and which makes it nice if you have guests or you reorganize your kitchen, make sure there is an outlet where you are moving it. Many modern kitchens have every amenity imaginable; they have the double ovens, the professional cook tops, refrigerators and microwaves it would be foolish to think that these modern kitchens would not have an automatic coffee maker. Most modern kitchens today have professional coffee system built into the counter and they have water piped to them.

How The Best Cappuccino Makers Work

Cappuccino makers are preferred over standard coffee makers among the most serious coffee lovers. With these products, you can brew your favourite café style coffee drink in the privacy of your own home. You may be unsure at first, but with practice, you will be making restaurant quality drinks at home.

These coffee machines work by heating the water and then forcing the heated water through the ground coffee. As the heated water moves through the grinds, the water extracts the flavor. The coffee used is ground finer than for regular coffee. Steam is also used to froth milk for cappuccino or lattes.

Types of Cappuccino Makers

There are two basic types of machines for brewing specialty coffee drinks: steam and pump models. Pump machines are the best rated for heating water to the optimal level quickly. The most expensive models all work with an electric pump. They make a great cup of espresso with good crema. Crema is the foamy layer on top of a cup of espresso and is considered an important feature that coffee lovers look for.

Steam models are less expensive and are capable of brewing a good cup of espresso. Steam models have less pressure and less power. They are more affordable and make a good first machine. These products are definitely a step up from standard drip coffee makers.

How Do We Make The Perfect Coffee

Drive down just about any street in the United States and you will spot people holding coffee cups walking into their place of employment or just on a lazy morning stroll. With specialty coffee shops strategically tucked in our business districts, one would think coffee has always been in the United States, but this ever growing trend is not an original American idea.

It is believed that the first coffee trees were found in Ethiopia. Several urban legends surround the discovery of the coffee bean – the most familiar being a farmer who watched his goats eating the beans, and out of curiosity, ingested one and was impressed with the surge of energy the bean produced - but cannot be substantiated. But what we do know is that coffee beans found its way through the Arabian Peninsula that led to Yemen and Arabia. Yemen was the first area to cultivate the coffee bean. From there, it made its way to Turkey, where coffee beans were first roasted and then crushed and boiled in water, producing a very primitive version of the coffee we drink today.

Home Espresso Machine

The coffee craze has swept the nation! Starbucks are popping up on every street corner, in grocery stores, book shops, shopping malls, and even libraries. This coffee fever has spread to fast food restaurants, cafes, and restaurants, who are striving to provide their customers with a wider variety that black coffee in a Styrofoam cup. Since everyone is walking around sipping espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, macchiatos, and every other coffee creation in existence, it is no surprise that the coffee business if a booming enterprise. If your yearly coffee budget has left you aghast, consider alternatives to buying those tasty espresso fixes. Many individuals find that the purchase of a home espresso machine can save them enough to pay for the machine many times over.

Home Coffee Grinder Buying Guide For Serious Coffee Drinkers.

Serious coffee drinkers wouldn’t consider anything less than grinding their own beans at home. Grinding beans does take a bit more time but as any connoisseur will tell you, it is well worth the effort.  The reason for this is that coffee beans like any other food product oxidize when they are exposed to the air. Once the beans have been ground they have a much larger relative surface area than the unground bean plus there is no outer layer of protection so they suffer this effect even more.

Consequently grinding beans at home produces the least exposure to air and hence the freshest grounds. In making the perfect cup of espresso what is important is that you grind only the amount you will use immediately.

History Of Kenya Coffee

The birth place of coffee is relatively close to Kenya but getting it there was not an easy task and full of bloodshed. The Arabs who controlled coffee enslaved thousands of Kenyan's where they worked on the coffee plantations in Kenya and Arabia. This was followed by the British settlers around 1900 who quickly assumed control over the country which led to more bloodshed.

In the first part of the 20th century the interior was settled by British and European farmers who became rich by farming coffee on the backs of the Kenyan workers. By the 1930's the farmers powers had become very strong. Even with over 1 million Kikuyu tribe members calling it home they had now real land claims according to the Europeans. To protect their interest the wealthy Europeans banned them from growing coffee, introduced a hut tax and gave them less and less for their labor. The Kikuyu were forced to leave their land and go to the cities in order to survive. This legal slavery of the population continued until the century until the British relinquished control in 1960. Despite all this bloodshed and slavery Kenya coffee has flourished and is among one of the finest cups in the world.

Hawaiian Coffee – The Flavor Of The Tropics

If you have ever visited Hawaii then you already know how beautiful and picturesque these islands are. They offer fantastic food which can’t be matched anywhere in the world and the Hawaiian coffee is another thing which is highly sought after worldwide. Hawaiian coffee, also known as Kona coffee, offers a rich flavor that is addictive to the discriminating coffee drinker.

Hawaiian coffee is grown on small farms and is typically wet-processed. When coffee is wet-processed it removes the four layers that immediately surround the bean. The result is a cleaner and fruitier coffee that is simply irresistible in taste. There are now many countries that produce fine coffees that also use the wet process. One specific plant known as Typica produces a very low harvest but also produces a very desirable cup of coffee.

Grinding Coffee: For Coffee Lovers

If you are a coffee lover, perhaps it is time for you to learn to grind your own coffee. If you don't have the slightest clue of where to start, then this article is for you! To begin, there are two main types of coffee grinders on the market today: burr grinders and blade grinders.

Blade grinders grind the beans unevenly and without consistency in the grind. Since there are no settings on blade grinding units, you basically grind until you achieve the coarseness or fineness you need. The blade grinder causes static electricity and tends to make the process a bit messy if you aren't used to doing it.

Burr grinders, on the other hand, grind the beans evenly and are much cleaner and easier to use; especially if you are just learning. Burr grinders have settings that allow you to choose an exact uniform size and consistency. They are often recommended for espresso grinds, but can also be used for other types of grinds as well.

Grind And Brew Coffee Makers Overview

It won’t matter how rich, expensive or high quality your coffee beans are, they won’t produce the best flavour if the grinding isn’t right. There is more than one type of grinder on the market and when evaluating grind and brew coffee makers, you will want to pay careful attention to the grinder.

The Grinding Side of Coffee Making

Some grinders come with blades and some have burr type grinders. The generally consensus among coffee growers is that the burr type is best. The blades tend to cut the coffee in a way that doesn’t release the best flavour. On the other hand, 2” burrs will gently chop the beans into a well ground consistency that will enhance the bean’s flavour. The objective here is a fine, consistent grind.
